Mentoring in Polk County schools has traditionally been a one-on-one relationship between a positive, caring adult and a student who is at risk of dropping out of school due to academics, behavior or attendance. However, the mentor program at Lake Region High is more inclusive in that some students may only need a mentor to guide them to a career and/or post secondary education. For example some students involved with the program are working toward a college scholarship and may need assistance in how to access the system. Mentors may also work on the following: setting goals, helping with school work and spending time talking with the student about school or other interests and activities. The goal of the program is to help the student make choices that will lead to future success.
